Do You Know These Ladies?

I beetled back into my office the other day to find this photo on my pinboard:

Gough-2

Aside from the excitement that comes from unexpectedly (courtesy of an office mate) encountering an original 1981 photograph of Gough (check the very 80s rounded corners on the print), I was baffled as to where it came from.

Who are the women flanking EGW? Are they policy wonks? Devoted fans? Mistresses? Where are they? What are they doing there? Could that really be Alan Partridge's assistant Lyn on the left?

Please, if anyone knows these women, speak now.

I don't know them. Hope that helps narrow things down.

Blimey, it does look like Helen Clark.

My folks were featured in the iconic 'It's Time' commercials. They looked pretty cool actually (for them). Little did they know it was the first of what was to become many appearances by members of the family in Labor-party sponsored advertising campaigns *winces*

You may have already heard this story but - Dad worked with Gough at the Constitutional Commission before the 88 referendum, back in the day (bill of rights, anyone?).

He subsequently went to work at a large corporate law firm.

One day, he was on his way to a meeting, trailing behind two bigwig partners. At the entrance of their building, a large limo had pulled up. Gough emerged, saw my father, boomed 'Greetings, Comrade!'* and enfolded him in a manly embrace.

Dad said it was at that moment that he knew he wasn't meant to be a lawyer at the big end of town.

*Apparently, EGW is not good with names, so everyone is called comrade.
